Alexandre Carette (science politique)

Head of Office, United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan

Alexandre Carette has been the UNAMA Kandahar Head of Office since July 2022.  He spent the previous six years working for the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) in various posts including as Chief of the Joint Operations Center, Senior Political Affairs Officer and Head of the Political Affairs Team in Central Mali. Before joining MINUSMA, he worked for UNAMA for over 4 years as Special Assistant to SRSG Nicholas Haysom, Head of the Field Coordination Unit, and Head of the Farah Field Office. During this period, he also did a short stint as Special Advisor to the SRSG for the UN Mission for Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER). Prior to joining the United Nations, he worked for Global Affairs Canada at Headquarters and in southern Afghanistan in the Kandahar Provincial Reconstruction Team, as well as for the Privy Council Office. He holds master’s degrees in medieval history (Université Marc Bloch de Strasbourg) and political science (Université de Montréal).
